Special Holiday Discount Promotion
30% Off Select Disney Theme Park Quick Service (Counter-service) restaurants
December 19, 2010  – January 1, 2011

Dining at off-peak times is always a good idea at the Walt Disney World Theme Parks Quick-Service / Counter-service restaurants because you avoid long lines but now there’s another great reason to dine during off hours  – you can save 30% off your meal at select Disney Counter-service restaurants when you dine before noon or between 3:00 – 4:30PM.

You must present one of these printable vouchers found at http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/walt-disney-world-dining-voucher/ to receive your discount.   Print more than you think you’ll need because you’ll have to present one at each meal.     Then just give any extras away to other guests.

The great thing about this deal is that you can benefit even if you’re not staying at a Disney resort.   Guests on a Disney Dining Plan may still want to print out a few  vouchers, just in case you end up buying some extra meals.

We recently wrote an article listing the quick-service meals we consider the best in taste and quality at Walt Disney Restaurants and several of the restaurants included in this discount are included on that list.  You can see the full article at http://www.squidoo.com/best-disney-world-quick-service-meals

Merry Christmas!

My travel agency always sees a spike in travel planning when the new year rolls around.  Families start thinking about summer vacation and begin watching for good deals on airfare.

Because of this, I want to post the schedule – as it relates to the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks – for Gay Days in Orlando, Florida.  This event always takes place in the first week of June.

This is not a Disney sponsored event – actually, Bud Light is the Presenting Sponsor and the Royal Plaza (not a Disney hotel) is the host hotel.   Quite a few of the parties and receptions are held at the Royal Plaza, which is in the Downtown Disney resort area.

A day at each of the theme parks is included in the event schedule:

  • Thursday, June 4, 2009 – Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
  • Friday, June 5, 2009 – Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park
  • Saturday, June 6, 2009 – Magic Kingdom Theme Park
  • Sunday, June 7, 2009 – Epcot

I personally haven’t been in the Disney World parks during Gay Days.  Pete Werner is the Founder/Webmaster of the DIS Boards, which is one of the biggest unofficial Disney World informational websites and forums.  Mr. Warner is gay and wrote an article Why I’m Not Going to Gay Days This Year.  Because the DISboards provides so much quality information about Walt Disney World, I expect that Mr. Warner’s article probably provides an accurate picture of what to expect from Gay Days.

What should you do if you want to avoid this event but have already purchased non-refundable airline tickets?

  • Avoid Downtown Disney; especially at night.  The host hotel is near Downtown Disney so you should probably expect a fairly wild “Spring Break” party type atmosphere in the Downtown Disney restaurants, especially those that offer live music.
  • Avoid the Atlantic Dance Hall in the Boardwalk Entertainment area.
  • Check the park schedule posted above and avoid those parks on the days listed.
  • Be aware of what is happening around you in the resort swimming pools and hot tubs – especially after the life guards are off duty.  I’m told that some of what occurs is not “Family Friendly”.
  • The participants are encouraged to “Wear Red and Be Seen” –  if you aren’t participating, you might not want to wear red.
  • Pray for the event and its participants.  If I may paraphrase Esther 4:14b “And who knows but that you have to to (Walt Disney World) for such a time as this?”    If you’ve experienced the love of God and are carrying His Spirit within you, you may be uniquely qualified to pray for those who don’t know Him.

The Disney Pixar movies are full of heart and have some really important themes but I didn’t know anything about the religious background of any of the creative minds behind the movies.  I read a great interview this summer with writer-director Andrew Stanton and thought some of you might be interested too – especially since Pixar is becoming increasingly important at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.   Andrew Stanton is a christian who has not only been a writer and/or director in the big Pixar projects, he has also been a voice actor on several projects.  Stanton is now vice president of Pixar’s creative division.

Here’s some of his accomplishments:

  • WALL-E  (Director, writer, voice actor)
  • Ratatouille (executive producer)
  • Cars (voice actor)
  • The Incredibles (voice actor)
  • Finding Nemo (director, writer, voice actor)
  • Monsters, Inc  (executive producer, screenplay)
  • Toy Story 2 (writer, screenplay, voice actor)
  • A Bug’s Live (co-director, writer, screenplay, voice actor)
  • Toy Story (writer, voice actor)

You can read more in the World Magazine article about WALL-E & Andrew Stanton by Megan Basham.

May God bless Mr. Stanton with many, many more wonderful and creative ideas in the years to come!

So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen; for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.  2 Corinthians 4:18

Today, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are going to see some demonstrations of how movie and television producers can make things appear to happen.  You might see how a small model of ship can appear to be a large Navy ship engaged in a sea battle.  You might also see how stunt men and women perform crashes and action scenes to make a movie’s action appear believable.  You will learn that we cannot always trust our eyes and ears to tell us what is real

The Bible tells us that there are some very real, very important things that we cannot see.  We cannot see the Holy Spirit but He is very real.  We cannot see Heaven or find it on a map but the Bible assures us that Jesus is there, preparing a place for us.  The Israelites often lost faith and made horrible decisions because they feared enemies they could see, rather than trusting the invisible God who had led them into the Promise Land and made them victorious time and time again.

What’s worse, the devil doesn’t want people to see the things that God has done for us.  The Bible says:

The god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.  2 Corinthians 4:4

When the problems you face in life cause you to doubt the power of God, who you cannot see, remember that today you learned that we cannot always trust our own eyes.  Remember to put your trust in the God you know and who has shown Himself faithful to you.

For we walk by faith, not by sight-2 Corinthians 5:7

Prayer: Dear Lord, please use the things we see today to remind us to put our faith and our hope in you no matter what our situation looks like.  We know that You are good and that You are strong.  Amen.
