I’m headed to Disneyworld this weekend to enjoy the wonder and pageantry of the parks at Christmas. The whole family will be together, which is really special as life becomes more and more hectic. My mom is not a theme park fan – she went to Disneyland years ago and spent half a day at the Animal Kingdom and half a day at Epcot once upon a time but she’s coming along too.
Because of this blog, I’ll be touring the parks with a sense of higher purpose and will be looking for God in the midst of it all. Because I know something of His character, I’m expecting that He’ll use the time our family spends together. He’s done it before and I know He’ll do it again. But I’ll also be on the prowl for more concrete signs of Jesus in the theme parks. We’ve got our Candlelight Processional dinner reservation ready and I’ve started my plan to catch all of the “Holidays Around the World” storytellers – it will be a precision operation because we have to leave early to go to “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party”. We’ll also see the Osbourne Spectacle of Lights. I’ll share my experiences when we return.
In the meantime, I found another blog that might interest you: Jesus Goes To Disney World. It’s written by a Catholic priest in Baltimore. I’m not Catholic and I haven’t had time to give Fr. Murphey’s blog more than a quick glance. Truth be told, I including the link because I want to go back and read the posts when I have time to read them thorougly . The shared Disney experience may give me a frame of reference to better understand Catholic Christianity, just as my blog might help might provide some insight into my faith walk.
Celebrating the Purpose of Christmas at Walt Disney World is another great article that I found this week.
I be back next week with a report on my religious pilgrimage to the House of Mouse.
P.S. Here’s a silly bit of information about me: The Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party dates start shortly after the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party dates end. That’s always a rough transition time for me as a travel agent who doesn’t want to sound totally stupid but usually ends up tangling the words anyway. Unofficially, I’ve taken to calling the winter parties, Mickey’s Not So Scary Hanukkah Hoedown. That would totally be worth the price of the ticket!
